Meet The Mother of All Cannabinoids

Have you noted that we use the name Physicians Cannabinoid Council frequently? It is to be more inclusive of all the important cannabinoids found in the cannabaceae family of plants that include hemp and hops, and more. What? you mean there are other compounds than CBD?  Yes and the recent interest in CBGA (cannabigerolic acid), a unique and rare compound found in the cannabis plant, which is quite exciting for many.

CBGA is a precursor to several other well-known cannabinoids such as THC, CBD, CBC, and CBG and is considered the “mother of all cannabinoids”.

Despite its previously limited presence in the plant, experts are now breeding strains with higher levels of CBGA. The newly found interest is due to its potential as a natural inhibitor and its ability to expedite early cell death. The importance of that is the fact that failure of cells to die, or cells dying when they shouldn’t, can lead to or exacerbate many diseases.

According to a study published in Science Direct in June 2021, “this study has provided evidence that CBD and CBG formulated appropriately exhibit anti-inflammatory activity. Our observations suggest that these non-psychoactive cannabinoids may have beneficial effects in treating health challenges characterized by airway inflammation.

Furthermore, CBGA is being studied for its anti- bacterial, appetite and pain support, mood-enhancing properties.  If more large studies could be conducted, the long term effect and benefit would be
